Life of the Party

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

Have you ever been with a group of people and felt the mood go down when one of the people of the group left? Usually when a person who is the “life of the party” leaves a group the impact is felt right away. Things seem to be less lively and the fun dies down a little. If we are not careful a similar thing can happen when the Holy Spirit’s presence leaves our life. He is still with us since we are believers in Jesus but we don’t feel Him or His influence anymore. This can happen when we aren’t living lives that reflect Christ and grieve the Holy Spirit with our sin. Of course, no one is perfect and we all mess up but it’s important not to be living a lifestyle where we are purposely sinning. For example, it’s one thing for a person to stub their toe and let out a curse word but it’s something entirely different for them to curse regularly as if it’s okay. In both cases the person would need to repent and ask God for forgiveness but in the first case it’s a mess up while in the second it’s a lifestyle. If we live a lifestyle of sin it becomes increasingly difficult to have the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives. We will start to have less patience, care less about helping others, get more selfish, have less direction, ect. As believers in Christ we need to make it our priority to live lives that reflect Christ as we are shown in the bible and in so doing keep the life of the party, that is the Holy Spirit, in our lives. It may not be easy but as we know from the word we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
